Dwarkadhish Temple
Also known as the Jagat Mandir, dedicated to Lord Krishna, the King of Dwarka.
The Katha
When Lord Krishna left the forests and rivers of Vrindavan, he did not go to conquer kingdoms. He built one. Using his divine powers, Krishna summoned Vishwakarma, the celestial architect of the gods, and commanded him to build a city unlike any the world had ever seen β a city that would rise from the very depths of the ocean.
Vishwakarma built the legendary Dwarka β the Golden City β on an island reclaimed from the sea. It was said to have 900,000 palaces made of crystal, silver, and gold, surrounded by beautiful gardens and pleasure groves. The streets were paved with precious stones. From this magnificent capital, Krishna ruled as King for over 36 years, not with weapons, but with wisdom, diplomacy, and the eternal principles of Dharma.
After Krishna departed from this world, the city of Dwarka sank into the Arabian Sea β as if the ocean was reclaiming what had been borrowed from it. Marine archaeological expeditions have indeed found submerged structures off the coast of Dwarka, lending credence to this ancient account.
Krishna's great-grandson Vajranabha built this temple directly over what is believed to be Krishna's own residential palace. The massive flag atop the temple measures 52 yards and is changed five times every day β it is visible from miles out at sea, guiding fishermen and ships safely home. Adi Shankaracharya designated Dwarka as the western pillar of the sacred Char Dham circuit that spans all of India.
History
Current temple dates to the 15th-16th century. Marine archaeology has found submerged structures offshore dating to 1500 BCE, correlating with the legend of sunken Dwarka.

Architecture
A magnificent 5-story limestone structure supported by 72 ornately carved pillars, rising 157 feet from the Gomti creek. The flag is visible from far out at sea.
